International Sound Art Festival 09__deepSOUND_-August 14 - September 12, 2009
Layout: Antje Ludwig
"International Sound Art Festival Berlin" was founded in 2003, its focus is interdisciplinary from the very beginning. Sound Art, as new evolving genre includes aspects of many different kinds of fine art like sculpture, collage, installation, ars acustica, radio art and land art. For this reason many different kinds of artists contribute to this emerging art with open and fluctuating borderlines. Berlin can be called 'Secret Capitol City of Sound Art' these days, almost each sound artist of international standard has contact to this whirling art scene - temporarily, as part time or even as long time citizen of this City.
According to the rich diversity of aspects of sound art, "International Sound Art Festival" combines three formats of approach to it through an ongoing sound art exhibition, concerts/performances and a symposium of the artist and composers with art and music historians open to the public. Each event explores different aspects of the main topic which is given to the festival each year. While 2008 the main theme of interest "farb_laut" investigated new relationships of color and sound in the "Digital Era", 2009 a new series is started dealing with questions of 'material and situation'. This year's festival title is __tiefKLANG (__deepSOUND) and the event takes place in tunnels, bunkers and old Metro stations underneath the surface of Berlin - in cooperation with "Berlin Underworld Society".
Artistic Director: Thomas Gerwin, Sound Engineer: Michael Baumeister
This event is produced by inter art project in cooperation with Berliner Unterwelten, Kulturhaus Mitte, Southwestradio (SWR), Freie Universitaet Berlin / Musicology, Electronic Music Foundation New York (EMF) and Institute for Multisensorial Arts (IfmK).
